Women’s Christian College, apart from being known for academic excellence, is also

recognised for excellence in cultural activities. The clubs in college discover new talents and train students to perform better in their areas of interest, thereby contributing to their holistic development. Literary and Debate Club, Quiz Club, Indian Music Club, Western Music Club, Indian Dance Club, Western Dance Club, Fusion Dance Club, Arts Club, Dramatics Club and Photography Club are the ten major clubs in the college. These clubs, apart from training students for cultural activities, also engage them in promotional activities and awareness campaigns, thereby contributing to a vibrant campus life in college.

Each club in WCC maintains its own social media account since social media platforms such as Instagram and WhatsApp play a significant role in club activities. They not only promote the particular club, but also act as a medium of communication between club members and the public. They also help club members exhibit their talents in a public forum and help external event organisers invite the clubs directly to their cultural events. Apart from this, the clubs also receive appreciation and criticism from spectators through social media, which helps them understand the pulse of the audience and perform better.

For instance, the social media account maintained by the Literary and Debate club in Instagram is titled ‘tapestryofthoughts’, and contains pieces written by its members. By posting their work, the club not only encourages students to write more, but also trains them to write with consciousness as it has to be posted in a public forum. Some of the other successfully maintained social media accounts of clubs include Western Dance Club’s ‘wdc_wcc’ , Indian Dance Club’s ‘indian_dance_club_1’ , Indian Music Club’s ‘indian.music.club’ , Western Music Club’s ‘w_m_c_shift _1’ , Drama Club’s ‘ dramaticallycorrectwcc’ and Photography Club’s ‘ shutterup_19’.

In the age of information technology, everything has been made easily accessible, as the constraints of time and place are overcome. Messages are communicated instantly with the click of a button. Likewise, when it comes to cultural events, students no longer travel to different colleges to invite them to their events; instead invitations are posted through their official social media accounts, thereby saving time, money and effort. The social media accounts of clubs, thus act as a bridge between students, event organisers and the public.
