Students set to leave for Semester Abroad Programme

The world of international education provides students with the opportunity to study in a global environment from which they gain academic prowess as well as learn to adapt to different cultural perspectives. For this reason, Women’s Christian College provides an opportunity for students to benefit from a world-class educational experience through its tie-up with LeTourneau University, USA and Liverpool Hope University, UK. A small group of students are set to go to LeTourneau University in January 2022 for their semester-abroad programme and spend their fourth semester in Texas. Another group of students is getting ready to study at Liverpool Hope University.

LeTourneau, like WCC, is an interdenominational college. On being asked why she chose to study abroad, Tadeen, a second-year student answered “Apart from the generic reasons of exploring a new education system, new teaching style and new curriculum, the programme will help me explore a different side of myself, which will challenge me to be out there and interact with people from distinct backgrounds.”

Another factor that influenced their decision to study abroad was the sense of responsibility that would be cultivated as they learnt to manage their affairs independently in a foreign country. The students are expecting to opt for electives that will provide exposure to disciplines that will supplement the degree that they are currently pursuing at WCC. Joselin Rachel E, a student of second-year BSc Mathematics has opted for a core paper in Christian Studies in addition to other electives.

Although countries are fast opening up their borders to international students, the effects of the pandemic continue to persist. However, international education isexpected to open up with the steady pace of vaccination drives, and protocols suchas the 10-day self-quarantine which ensures the safety of all concerned.
