STAYING FIT DURING LOCKDOWN AND THEREAFTER

With our college adapting to online platforms for teaching, testing and other activities during the pandemic, the Department of Physical Education has also been conducting its sessions this way. Amidst the global lockdown, here’s how the Department is keeping students physically active and healthy.

The first year students, as a part of their curriculum, have to attend sessions of physical activity conducted by the Department of Physical Education. Owing to lockdown constraints and the need to maintain social distancing, students have been attending these classes over Zoom from the safety of their homes. Coordinated by Dr. Agnes and Ms Naveena Priya, Physical Directors of the college, the physical activity sessions and exercises are regularly scheduled for students of both Shift 1 and 2.

These online sessions revolve around basic functional training. The classes are conducted for an hour every Monday and Wednesday. While the students from Shift 1 attend between 4:30 pm and 5:30 pm, the students from Shift 2 have their classes between 8 am and 9 am.

Owing to the pandemic constraints, our athletes have limited their participation in intercollegiate sports and other sporting events, says Dr Agnes, but there are efforts being made now to encourage students to steadily get back to their sports training. With the campus coming back to life with offline classes, it is likely that our ardent athletes and sports women will soon be spotted training on the campus grounds.
