LEADING STUDENTS IN FAITH

The Choir and Band Shofar from WCC have been active despite the pandemic and its challenges, using online and offline platforms to continue their activities.

On Independence Day, members of the college choir performed a thanksgiving song through an online platform that touched the student community with their soulful music. The choir also made itself heard outside college. On 29 August, they had their video recording telecast on Doordarshan’s Podhigai Channel during the programme, Christhuva Geethangal. The whole team gathered at DD Studio on 13 August to film this video. Another splendid performance from the Choir was seen during Seniors' Dramuda. The group sang graciously, accompanied by students on the piano and violin.

The Choir was invited to perform on 28 November, the first Sunday of Advent, at CSI St Mary's Church, located at Fort St George. The Church, also called 'Westminster Abbey of the East', is one of the historically renowned buildings of Chennai. It is also the first Anglican Church in Asia. It was an honour for the choir to perform the Christmas carol, ‘The First Noel’there. After the Sunday church service, the choristers had a wonderful time watching how the pipe organ was played and taking turns to play it.

SHOFAR, an acronym for Serving Him in Obedience, Faithfulness, Adoration and Reverence, is a gospel band that is active not just inside college but outside too. On 15 June, SHOFAR conducted an International webinar through Zoom. The theme of the webinar was, “THE NEW HORIZON – THE POSITIVE OUTCOMES OF COVID 19 FROM A BIBLICAL PERSPECTIVE”. Pastor Philip and Pastor Kerina from Kenya were invited as speakers for the day. Around 240 to 250 participants, including school and college students participated. This webinar marked the beginning of SHOFAR’s events this year, successfully completing ten years of fruitful ministry on and off-campus. On 19 July, SHOFAR was given a chance to minister to the Grad fellowship. This was an online webinar with around 32 participants. The theme of the webinar was “SHAME TO FAME” and included games such as Connections and Find the Song. The games were followed by worship, the word of God and testimonies. SHOFAR also conducts a Sunday Bible discussion through GMeet for its present and past members.
