Initiative to coach for competitive examinations

The Centre for Institutional Advancement has been initiated by the college this year in association with Best Learning Centre to train and coach students for competitive examinations that would equip them for government jobs. Ms Titty E Phillips, Head of the Department of History, is the Dean of this centre. The centre offers coaching in TNPSC (includes Group I, II and IV), SSC (Staff Selection Commission), RRB (Railway Recruitment Board) and nationalised bank exams.

Currently 103 students comprise the first batch of 2021. In total the training provides 132 hours of class. To make it more convenient for students, classes take place thrice a week and the schedule is Monday, Wednesday, Friday for TNPSC; Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday for Bank exams, RRB and SSC. The training is offered for one year. Students need not worry about procuring study material as exclusive materials are made available and can be accessed by registered students easily from the college library.

Owing to the pandemic, the training is presently online. Apart from live classes, recordings of the classes are posted on the Dashboard for students to access at their convenience. Students are regularly tested and feedback is received from them at the end of each class so that the students’ requirements are addressed effectively.

Ms Phillips added, “The students are extremely happy with the coaching.” One of the students said, “I like the way the teachers make learning easier by giving bilingual explanations as well as notes for every subject. At the end of every class there is a question and answer session where the faculty discuss questions from previous years’ exams that relate to the topic being taught. This discussion gives more clarity to the topic and it also saves our time searching for specific questions from the question bank. The faculty are easily approachable to clarify our doubts.” Another student said, “The quiz sessions in class help jog our memories following each lesson.”

On the whole, students find these coaching classes quite engaging and effective. WCC has yet again outdone herself in making sure students are exposed to varied opportunities to equip them for valuable careers.
