EPIC Rekindles Hope

A ‘day retreat’ for spiritual awakening

A slice of the event : worship, interactive session and message by Pastor Joshua PC: Ms.Cordilea Hannah, Felcia

The chapel committee of WCC witnessed the fruits of their labour on October 15 through the event EPIC. Eternal Peace In Christ is an annual retreat for young girls, conducted by the Chapel Committee. This is one of the most eagerly awaited events on campus, conducted for youngsters, especially students of the college.

The guest speaker, Benny Joshua, had organised his speech with his audience in mind as the message was both practical and simple. The theme was ‘Peace in Christ’ and Mr Joshua focussed on the emotional and spiritual struggles faced by girls in the cusp of adulthood. 849 members attended the meet. The audience loved the discourse as it was pragmatic and interesting. The event was peppered with songs of worship, an interactive session and the message by the speaker. Songs by the college choir and programmes by EU (Evangelical Union), SHOFAR (Serving Him in Obedience Faithfulness Adoration and Reverence) and SCM (Student Christian Movement) were added highlights. Johana and Joanita, the sister duo of ‘Jtriune’, rendered a musical number. A number of girls from the Social Ethics classes also joined the event. A live Youtube link was generated for the added benefit of the alumnae of WCC and youngsters from across the State.

This was an opportunity to display the team spirit of the college. The heartwarming part was the way students pitched in their little bit to make the audience feel the essence of a Christ-filled life: girls from the department of Visual Communication helping the technical team, and the coordinators of the college choir, EU, SHOFAR and SCM assisting the committee.

Shanthi Thapa, the Chairperson For Religious Life, said that having an outline for the tasks and being prepared came in handy. Ms Cordilea Hannah, the Chaplain, ably supported the girls in organising this event by hosting weekly planning meetings and liaising with the speaker. Ms Hannah stated, “I would like to give God Almighty all the praise and honour for His unswerving faithfulness. Catering to the spiritual need of young girls and seeing its fruit, requires hours of prayer, planning and preparation. I thank God from the bottom of my heart for the tireless efforts of the chapel committee. A special mention about all other campus ministries like SCM, SHOFAR, EU and College Choir who volunteer each year to make this a grand success.”

On the day of the event a few technical glitches and lagging videos were the major setbacks. ‘Smooth like butter’ isn’t always applicable to online events, right? Yet, teamwork, persistence and the spirit of sisterhood defined the event that rekindled the love for Christ, spiritual awareness and hope in the hearts of youngsters who are the flag bearers of the spiritual life of WCC.
