The Institution’s Innovation Council of Women’s Christian College, including its two branches, Entrepreneurship Cell (Blaze) and Innovation Club (Zeal), strives to promote a wide range of opportunities irrespective of the pandemic with a vision to foster zestful entrepreneurs in the community.

The Council’s installation ceremony was conducted on 24 August 2021, with an active body of 13 office-bearers and 50 department representatives. Duties and responsibilities were handed over to the new office bearers for the academic year 2021-’22, followed by presentation of project reports by winners of the ‘Idea Proposal Contest’ that was organised by Zeal in February 2021.

From 21-23 August 2021, the Entrepreneurship Cell of IIC took the initiative of motivating young entrepreneurs by organizing ‘E-preneurs’(in commemoration of “World Entrepreneurship Day”), an event that called for creative ideas in developing encouraging forums for entrepreneurs to work with. The event included three contests: Life of Campus Entrepreneurs, Online Poster-making and Online Logo-making, on the theme, ‘Your Dream Business’. Despite the pandemic, the contests received immense reception from prospective student entrepreneurs of WCC, with an increase in number of entries compared to last year.

‘Life of Campus Entrepreneurs’ was a contest that incorporated original video submissions of innovative products, brands, and start-up businesses of student entrepreneurs at WCC. The contest received ten submissions, each unique and distinctive, clearly bringing out the innovative talents and business ideas of students. The Poster-making competition received 20 submissions while the Logo-making contest received 14 submissions, indicating the enthusiastic participation of young entrepreneurs that also aided in promoting new ideas that would help establish businesses successfully.

According to Megha Mary Joseph, President of E-cell (Blaze) of IIC WCC, this year the council works towards “taking proper action rather than proclaiming mere words.” The council has moved a step further in helping budding entrepreneurs from various sections of society encompassing the common public, students, and non-teaching staff of the college. An initiative to be put in action on October 1, 2021 by the Entrepreneurship Cell, the council also focusses on underprivileged sections of society and Tamil-speaking entrepreneurs, by initiating a ‘bilingual entrepreneurship programme’ that aids agro-tech based implementation of ideas to farmers in helping them start a simple yet effective business, and also aims at educating them on ways to sustain their start-up and seek financial support.

As stated in the installation ceremony, “If your actions create a legacy that inspires others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, then you are an excellent leader.” WCC’s efforts in encouraging entrepreneurs through the Institution’s Innovation Council has sparked young, innovative talent to develop into promising entrepreneurs of the future. IIC’s zeal to motivate and create young entrepreneurs will continue to echo amid the strong pillars of Women’s Christian College.
