The Centre for Environmental Studies (CES) was started by the college to help students understand their environment better. CES organised competitions, workshops and webinars this year to introduce various aspects of nature to students.
A webinar on 'Conservation and Sustainable Management of Soil Biodiversity for Agricultural Productivity' in collaboration with ICAR,KVK and a webinar on 'Effective conservation and sustainable use of biological diversity in Indian medicinal plants' was conducted. Dr P Loganathan, Principal Research Scholar, North Carolina State University, delivered a special talk during the international webinar titled 'Does the Helicoverpa Zea microbiome modulate Bt resistance?' In collaboration with Ayur Blends, CES also conducted a webinar on the topic 'Current Issues in the Natural Beauty Industry'.
An online essay writing competition on the topics Rediscovering Nature and Impact of Lockdown on Nature’s Crown was held in September 2021 for students to share their experiences in creating an eco-friendly space during the lockdown. As a part of the initiative to avoid single use plastics (Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav programme), CES organised online competitions on designing e-posters/pamphlets and video-making.
An online workshop on Aromatherapy was organised by CES in collaboration with Allured by Nature. They also conducted an online Faculty Development Programme on “Integrating Technology and Environmental Education” on October 11 and 12, 2021.
CES started the 'Community Garden Initiative' to develop students' interest in gardening. Students from Science, Arts and Commerce departments show great enthusiasm in planting vegetables and ornamental plants. Every department of the college is allotted a small plot of land near Holyoke Hostel and the plants there are maintained by the students of the particular department.
