Foreign language courses on a winning streak in online mode

Women’s Christian College in collaboration with Inaword, has been offering certificate courses in foreign languages to students who are passionate about learning languages like German and Spanish, with Japanese being a new addition this year . These courses enable students to widen their horizons and look beyond academics as they are exposed to new worlds through new languages.

Classes continue in the online mode this year as well, and the duration for the completion of each level of the course is 80 hours. This is further broken down into two 40-hour courses.

The first year students have been very enthusiastic and seats filled up rapidly. Five of these courses began on 17 September. These courses have been very successful and have gathered positive feedback from the students. “Initially I did think it would be a strain for me because college got over right before that, and I have other classes as well. But German was the one class that never stressed me out. The classes were always fun and light, but I also learnt so much. Constantly asking us by name to give answers is really helpful, because sometimes it's a bit difficult to volunteer to answer, especially when it's online. It's so fascinating to me that a teacher, who I've never actually met in person, has touched my life so much. Overall, an amazing experience”, stated a student of the A2 level in German.

One of the benefits of the online mode of classes is having teachers teaching from different parts of the country and abroad. “It's a privilege to have a native speaker teach Spanish to our Second-shift students this time”, added Dr. Ranjini Christopher, Associate Professor of French and Head of the Department of Languages. Japanese has been introduced this year and received an overwhelming response from students as it recorded a full-house rather swiftly. Despite not being able to meet students in person, the teachers make the most of their classes and are well prepared. They engage students in well-structured, interactive sessions filled with activities. Google Classroom and Zoom are used for the benefit and convenience of both teachers and students.

The continued excellence of these courses have made them successful and rewarding. It goes without saying that the foreign language courses offered at WCC are a big hit!
